Carl W. Smith

Carl W. Smith, 46, of Danville, passed away at 2:00am, Monday, January 23, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. He was born the son of Carl D. and Sandra {Drews} Smith on September 12, 1970, in Danville, IL. Carl was a proud Veteran of the US Army serving as CPL E-4 in Iraq. He loved to watch baseball and football especially watching his favorite teams, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. He was an avid bowler. One of his favorite things to do during his childhood was to play wiffle ball in the front yard. Carl had numerous friends and was a great supporter of PTSD sufferers. He will be remembered by many whose lives he touched. Carl is survived by: his mother, Sandra Smith of Georgetown; his significant friends, Angie Alcorn of Danville and Monica Shivers of Danville; his daughter, Stephanie Smith of Texas; and his sisters, Jamie (John) Powell of Danville, Faye (Bart) Atwood of Westville, & Susan (Don House) Smith of Alabama; his Aunt Sheila (Mike Woods); his Aunt Barb (John) Blaufuss; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, & great-nephews; and many cousins & friends. He was preceded in death by: his father, Carl; and his uncles, Bruce, Butch, & James Smith. A celebration of Carl's life will be held at 7:00pm, Friday, January 27, 2017, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S. State St., Westville, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Visitation will be held 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday prior to his service at the funeral home. Per his wishes, he will be cremated and later buried at Danville National Cemetery.
