Carl 'Sonny' J. Edwards

Carl (Sonny) Edwards, 77, of Westville, passed away at Danville Care Center on Thursday, November 17, 2016. Carl was born on June 10, 1939 at his family home on E. Kelly Ave., Westville, Illinois, to Sophia Grzelak Edwards and Carl E. Edwards of Belgium. He is survived by his longtime companion, Melanie Majercin, his son, Brian Edwards, stepdaughter, Sherril Masulis, daughter-in-law, Gretchen Edwards, his brother, Raymond Edwards, four grandchildren, Carl N. Edwards, Sonya Edwards, Ronnie Masulis, and Shannon Howard, and one great grandchild, Jamie Howard. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and two older sisters, Patricia A. Edwards and Dolores Bratton. Carl joined the US Army in 1959 and served tours in Europe and Asia before returning to the States in 1962 to pursue a career as a tool and die maker, finally retiring from Tridan International Inc. of Danville in 2002. Carl was especially interested in military history and enjoyed outdoor activities, as well as spending time with his grandchildren. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Parish in his hometown of Westville, Illinois. A visitation will be held 5:00pm to 7:00pm, Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel, 414 S State St, Westville, IL. A graveside service will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, November 23, 2106, at Resurrection Cemetery, Danville.
