Carl Leo Reed died at 5:41 p.m. on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Mr. Reed was born on February 13, 1921 to James Elijah and Lucy (Catlett) Reed in Sidell, IL. Rev. Frank Gilroy married Mr. Reed to Cathrine Bradford, of Fairmount, on July 17, 1941 in Sidell. Mr. Reed served in the Navy during WWII at the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After leaving the service, he worked for Weaver Refrigeration. He owned Miller and Reed Refrigeration and then Reed Refrigeration until he retired. Mr. Reed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Cathrine; two daughters, Carol Allen of Danville and Gail (Reno) Consulter of California; a grandson, Forest (Corina) Kelley of California; two sisters, Viola Davis of Catlin and Mildred Smith of Paxton; a brother, Frank Reed of Arizona; a special nephew, Ralph Reed of Danville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. A celebration of Carls life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Rev. Drs. Jimmy and Katie Hopper officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his name to donors choice.
