Carl R Powell

Oakwood - Carl R. Powell, 68, of Oakwood passed away on November 24, 2017 at 4:57 pm at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, IL. Carl was born on August 2, 1949 the son of Raymond and Mary (Smith) Powell in Danville, IL. He married Jill Edwards in September of 1968 and later married Sharon Gritton on October of 1974 and she preceded him in death in December of 2003, he subsequently married Ruth Grimes on February of 2005 and she preceded him in death in October of 2005. Survivors include his three daughters, Carla (Darren) Wells of Fithian, IL, Brandi (Les) Corwin of Indianola, IL, and Kimberlee (Chad) Turner of Oakwood, IL, two step-daughters, Staci Hargrove of Oakwood, IL and Jacque (Kelly) Roth of Acworth, GA, two brothers, Pete (Lorretta) Powell of Bloomfield, IN and George (Ruby) Powell of Waddy, KY, two sisters, Judy (Bill) Clem of Danville, IL and Perrie (Larry) McCrone of Ridge Farm, IL, seven grandchildren, Jadyn, Jaxon, Amanda, Caleb, Dustin, Hope, and Cassidy, six step grandchildren, Robbie (Ashley), Cody, Kayla (Josh), Aidan, Sadie and Tayrn, six step-great grandchildren, Manda Lynn, Gwynyvaer, Qoralyne, McKenzie, Carly and Killion. Also surviving are his "Almost Wife" and best friend, Peggy Bloomfield and special friends, Alan Powell, Steve Shonk and Dale Spencer and a host of many other extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by parents, former spouses, Sharon (Gritton) Powell and Ruth (Grimes) Powell, as well as one sister, Carol Kay Powell. Carl was a graduate of Oakwood High School and retired from General Motors in 1992. He enjoyed spending his free time being in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, working in his yard, sitting around the fire "burning a log" and riding his Harley. He was a member of the Potomac Masonic Lodge, the GAO GROTO and the Fairview Sportsmans Club. He was also a member of the Illiana Pigeon Club and enjoyed raising his birds. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL. Pastor David Garver will officiate. Burial will be in Newtown Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the funeral home.
