Carl L. Merlie

Carl L. Merlie, 82, of Westville, passed away at 9:14 pm, Friday December 16, 2011 at Provena USMC in Danville. He was born August 28, 1929 in Danville the son of Rudolph and Dora {Fava} Merlie. Carle married Joy Harcarik on September 22, 1951 in Westville, she will miss him along with: two sons, Gary (Lee Ann) Merlie of Bethany, IL, & Brad (Barbara) Merlie of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Armand Merlie of Westville; two grandchildren, Sara Merlie of Limatambo, Peru, & John Merlie of Atlanta, GA; and three granddogs, Roxy Charlie & Haley. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. Carl had retired after 25 years of service with General Electric/ Black & Decker Company. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean conflict. Carl was a member of the Westville American Legion #51 and the VCRCC with many enjoyable hours of flying remote controlled air planes. His pastimes were stamp collecting, photography and playing golf. Most of all he loved his wife of 60 years and his family and grandchildren A Celebration of Carl's life will be held at1:00 p.m. Tuesday December 20, 2011 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville with Father John Paninski officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday December 19, 2011 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in St. Peter & Paul cemetery in Westville. Memorial Donations may be given in his name to the Westville Depot or the Westville Public Library.
