Carl J. Sayon

Carl J. Sayon, 88, of Westville, passed away at 4:06am Saturday January 28, 2017 at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville. He was born August 5, 1928 in Westville, the son of Charles and Pauline (Janosik) Sayon.He was united in marriage to Mary l. Lesko on September 24, 1966 in Westville, she preceded him in 2012. He will be missed by his daughters, Cathy Sayon of Chicago & Karen Sayon of Orland Park, brother -in-law Dr. Frank (Dorothy) Lesko and several nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, sister's, Stella (Clarence) Kettman and Helen (Harold)Hoke, his brother, Joseph (Stephanie) Sayon, his nephews, Dom Kettman, Dennis Hoke and Richard Sayon, a niece JoAnne Smith. Carl was a lifelong Westville resident and graduated from Westville High School in 1946 and had served in the Army as an Aircraft and engine mechanic and Team Sergeant, in the 25th infantry Division, 64th Field Artillery Battalion, Aviation Section. He was a Korean War veteran. He retired from Berkley Davis in August of 1990, after working 34 years as a machinist. He was a volunteer with the American Legion post 51's Honor guard and was a red vest volunteer at the hospital. He was a member of Westville American Legion, St. Procopius, St. Marys Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls and Bears, and occasional admirer of the St Louis Cardinals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary's Alter & Rosary Society. A Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00am Wednesday February 1, 2017 at St. Mary's Church in Westville with Father Timothy Sauppe officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 9:30 am to 10:45 am Wednesday February 1, 2017 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel 414 S. State St. Westville. He will be laid to rest in Sts.
