Carl J Osterbur

Carl J. Osterbur, 90, of Danville, passed away at 12:15am, Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Presence USMC, Danville. He was born on July 27, 1925, in Royal, IL, the son of Frank and Eilinda {Johnson} Osterbur. Carl was united in marriage to Nina E. Patberg on November 11, 1955, in Danville, IL, until her passing in 2005. He is survived by his children, James Osterbur of Danville and Judy (Gary) Hamand of Crawfordsville, and his granddaughter, Natasha Hamand of Lafayette, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his five brothers. Carl was a proud Veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He worked at Sears Roebuck and Company in Danville for 46 years as a Service Technician. Carl was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Danville and served as Elder for many years, as well as Usher. He volunteered as a Boy Scout Leader for numerous years and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of the American Legion Post #210 for 64 years and was in the 40&8 club, as well as a member of the American Legion Royal Post #996. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed going camping, working in his yard, & spending time with his family. A celebration Carl's life will be held at 10:00am, Monday, August 31, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1930 N. Bowman Ave., Danville, IL, with Pastor Michael Heidle officiating. Visitation will be 2pm-6pm, Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Danville. He will be laid to rest in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Royal, IL, with Military Honors conducted by American Legion Post #210. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Carl's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church or American Legion Post #210 Honor Guard.
