Carl David Evans

Carl David Evans, 82, of Rantoul, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday evening, November 30, 2023 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

He was born November 29, 1941 in Saltville, Virginia, a son of Bob and Margaret Evans.   He married Bonnie Price on December 20, 1960 in Tennessee.  They would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary later this month.

Carl moved to Rantoul in 1960 and was hired on to work at the Rantoul/Ludlow Co-Op Elevators.  He and Bonnie had 2 children, Jeffrey (Sharon) Evans of Marion, VA and Lisa Evans of Rantoul.

Also surviving are 4 sisters, Ruth (Bill) Smith of Saltville, VA; Mary Holman of Jefferson, NC; Ella (Tom) McNew of Kingsport, TN; Carolyn (Ronnie) Owens of Glade Springs, VA, 3 grandchildren, Carie Kirby Evans; Jeffery D Evans, Ashley Smith, 3 great-grandchildren, Elliott Smith; Allie Kirby; Austin Kirby, 6 nephews and 5 nieces.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Evans and Walter Evans and 2 nieces, Vicki Perry and Cindy McNew Vineyard, as well as his parents.

Hired on in 1960 by Mr. Horner, he worked his way up, becoming operations manager in 1967 and continuing to manage up to 6 elevators.  He was a valuable asset to Ludlow Co-Op and retired on January 1, 2006.  They  brought him back and he worked another 2 years before his final retirement in 2008 after 52 years of service. Carl was a volunteer firefighter for Ludlow Fire Department from 1968-1974.

He then focused on his properties, always mowing and keeping up on his investments.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 on Saturday at Lux Memorial Chapel, 1551 East Grove. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Rantoul.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 1:00 also at Lux Memorial Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

The family would like to thank Carle Hospital North Tower 6’s RN’s, HCT and DRs for the love and care they showed us.  They were wonderful and told us that Carl’s smile brightened their day!
