Carl E. Hawkins

Our family lost a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather when Carl Hawkins, 71, of Oakwood, went to heaven to be with the lord after a short battle with lung cancer.

He married his only love, Janice White on July 16, 1966. Together they had a daughter, Terri (Todd) Weidenburner; son, Kevin (Patricia) Hawkins. He will be remembered by his children as a wonderful man and great father.

He had five grandchildren, Morgan, Kiley, Chris, Eric and Nick; three great grandsons, Reed, Kason and Nolan. All of whom he loved very much.

He grew up on a farm near Oakwood with five brothers, Jim, Charles, Tom, Clyde and Don; seven sisters, Ilene, Ruth, Catherine, Dorothy, Erma, Marie and Vera.

Farming was his passion. He kept farming part of his life, always working as a part time farm hand. He was the one you wanted when there was long hours and hard work to be done. He would do the job and always did it well. Carl and Janice loved to ride their Harleys on long Sunday rides and country dancing with a host of great friends. He will be remembered by all as a good Christian, the guy who liked to talk, tell stories and laugh. He was some one you would be happy to have as your friend.

A celebration of Carls life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion, Danville. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Allhands Cemetery.
