Carl B. Daniel, 95, of Westville, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was born May 22, 1918 in Catlin, the son of Irwin B. and Flora (Sheppard) Daniel. He married Mary Helen Trimble on August 25, 1940. She preceded him in death in December 1980. He later married Anna Lucille Wilson-Stokes on June 11, 1983. She preceded him in death in July 2011. Carl is survived by a daughter, Charlotte (Larry) Rostron of New Lenox, IL; a son, Alan Daniel of Westville, IL; stepsons, Robert (Susan) Stokes and Glenn (Melinda) Stokes; grandchildren, Tara (Eric) Sample, Brad (Margaret) Rostron, Linde (Kyle) Davis, Lorie (Stephen) Krzyminski, Ryne (Brooke) Daniel; step grandson, Nicholas (Francie) Stokes; eight great grandchildren, Bradley, Andrew and Sean Sample, Jake, Jillian and Ellie Davis, Rylie and Tate Krzyminski and four great step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and sister in law, Harold and Ona (Winland) Daniel; sisters and brothers in law, Colista and Archie Wilson and Mable and Harlan Kidd. Carl graduated in 1936 from Catlin High School and began farming with his father and brother. After marrying Mary, he lived and farmed in the Potomac and Rossville area before moving to Westville in 1952. Continuing to farm the rest of his life, he was involved in many community activities. He was a member of the Wingard School Board for 12 years and the Georgetown High School Board for 10years, serving one term as president. He served as a member of the Georgetown fair board for several years hosting many entertainment shows. Carl was a past member of the Vermilion County Farm Bureau Board of Directors as well as a county committeeman of the Farm Service Agency. As a member of the First Church of Christ in Georgetown, he served on the church council. Carl was an avid sports fan, playing for Bill Whites amateur baseball teams and the Farm Bureau softball teams. He coached little league baseball in Georgetown for 6 years. Carl followed the Cubs, the Bears and the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, but his real joy came from watching his children and grandchildren compete in various athletic events. A special thank you from Carls family to the ladies who have cared for him so kindheartedly during the past few years. A service to celebrate Carls life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville with Pastors Phil Miller and Dale DeNeal officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made in Carl's name to First Church of Christ, Georgetown.
