Calvin Arthur Smith

Calvin Arthur Smith, 87, of Danville, passed away at 6:42am, Monday, August 10, 2015, at Gardenview Manor, Danville. He was born the son of Arthur D. and Inez {Thornsborough} Smith in Ridge Farm, IL, on February 4, 1928. He was united in marriage to Deloris Zorns on January 15, 1955, in Danville, until her passing in 2009. Calvin was a proud Veteran of the US Army. He worked as a stone cutter with Danville Monument for 33 years. He enjoyed playing cards, especially poker. He also raised livestock & farmed. He enjoyed visiting the Riverboat & Las Vegas and traveling with his wife. Calvin enjoyed doing yardwork & gardening and being outdoors. Above all, he enjoyed life with his grandkids, family, & friends. Those who will miss include: his son, Kerry (Sherril Masulis) Smith of Danville; his daughter, Vickie (Jim) Hollingsworth of Alliance, OH; daughter-in-law, Kimberly "Jodi" Smith of Georgetown; his grandchildren, Chad, Matthew, Nathan, BJ, Zachary, Amber, Jenny, Aaron, his several great grandchildren; his brothers, Ferman "Pete" (Phyllis) Smith of Texas & William (Betty) Smith of Tuscola; his sister, Patsy Gooch of Phoenix, AZ; his sister-in-law, Sue Smith of Ridge Farm; many nieces & nephews; and special friends, Arlen & Pam Chambers. He was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Calvin Alan Smith; and his siblings, Margaret Ibbotson, Regina (Joe) Cooke, and David Smith. A celebration of Calvin's life will be held at 1:00pm, Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Vermilion Grove Friends Church with Pastor Jim Hollingsworth officiating. Visitation will be 11am to 1pm on Thursday prior to his service at the church. He will be laid to rest in Vermilion Grove Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Dornblaser Post #203.
