Calista R. Carmean, 54, of rural Bismarck passed away on September 9, 2026 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville. She was born a daughter of the late Debra {Stevens} Larsen and Douglas Carmean. Born and raised in Danville, Calista attended and graduated from Danville High School, and attended Ridgeview Baptist Church. She received her CNA license from DACC and worked at the hospital and several nursing facilities around the year for several years. She was looking forward to her new opportunity serving veterans at the VA Illiana Medical Center before her passing. She also tended to the farm with her partner of 15 years, Hugo.
In her spare time, Calista enjoyed being outdoors. Whether it was gardening, motorcycle racing, or any other activity, she enjoyed being out in the fresh air. She also liked to paint, go shopping, listen to music, and cheer on the Packers, and loved The Cubs, PCA was her favorite player. She had a special place in her heart for her chickens, dogs, and turtles.
Calista is survived by her partner, Hugo Garcia; her children Sky (Sean) Rutherford, Justice Nesbitt, and Julia Nesbitt; as well as her grandchildren Zoe Jones, Zac Jones, and Zie Jones and sister Chrissa Carmean. She will also be missed by her dogs Roscoe and Chachi, niece Salene Carmean, and nephew Andrew Rush.
In addition to her parents, Calista was preceded in death by her brother Doug Carmean.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026 from 4 – 8 pm at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville.
