Buddy Lee Thompson

Westville - Buddy Lee Thompson, 84, of Westville, IL passed away at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 12, 2018 at his home in Westville. Buddy was born the son of Robert L. and Lula (Glass) Thompson on April 21, 1934 in Rossville, IL. He married Shirley Marie Downs on December 1, 1962 in Danville, IL and she survives. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Thompson of Westville; two sons, Ronald Thompson of South Carolina and Timothy (Leslea) Thompson of Georgetown, one sister, Luella Hennette of Westville; one daughter-in-law, Lynda Thompson of Georgetown, seven grandchildren: Mike Thompson of Georgetown, Justin Thompson of Fithian, Aaron Thompson of Denver, CO, Amy Thompson of South Carolina, Danielle Thompson of South Carolina, Amanda (Dustin) Cockrell of Westville and Hannah Thompson of Georgetown as well as eight great-grandchildren, Anna Marie Thompson, Jenna Lee Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Wyatt Thompson, Leilani Thompson, Alex Thompson, Olivia Cockrell and Hayden Crim. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents, one son; Doyle Thompson, three brothers, Elmer, Raymond and Willie Thompson and one sister, Marie Jones. Buddy graduated from Rossville High School and served his country in the United States Army. Buddy retired from Lauhoff in 1996 where he worked as a Sheetmetal Fabricator. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason with the Catlin Masonic Lodge. Buddy was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Fan, enjoyed working in his yard, playing catch and Euchre, spending time with his family and friends and loved his grandchildren dearly. A Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, with Pastor Aaron Rohde officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 from 9:00 - 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorials in Buddy's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of his son, Doyle.
