Bruce Oliver

Bruce Woodrow Oliver passed away Monday Aug 14th 6:12AM at Carle Hospital. Bruce was born March 26, 1949 in Danville, IL to Everett & Elizabeth Oliver. He is survived by his older siblings-Curtis (Frances) Oliver and Dorothy Brito; his children Christine; Grace, and Benjamin; his nieces Clementine, Teleli, and Marisol, and his grandchild Alleister Moll. In his earlier years, Bruce helped out with his family photo finishing business (Oliver Photo Service) and then went on to open his own picture tube repair business. Bruce and his father Everette spent hours exploring the sky and operating the ham radio. A lover of the outdoors, Bruce and his family enjoyed their land in Indiana. After graduating from Danville High School, Bruce attended the U of I School of Music. Best known as a talented clarinetist, Bruce also played the piano, trumpet, flute, saxophone, and oboe. Bruce played many seasons with the Danville Municipal Band and with other local talented music groups. Later in life, Bruce went on to play trumpet and piano with the Starlighters and the Little German Dance Band. He played often at the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed teaching his children music education, bicycling, and writing. He faithfully kept a daily journal for 40 plus years. Many people will remember how kind and thoughtful Bruce was with people and how he always would lend a helping hand to someone in need. His philosophy in life was to be positive. Bruce loved to make people smile and laugh. His unique wit and cheerful disposition will be cherished in our memories. A visitation for Bruce will be held at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 N Vermilion street Danville, on Thursday August 17th, 2017 from 1 - 3pm, with a family and friend sharing time at 3pm.
