Brian Kent Schulz, 68, of Westville, passed away Friday June 19th, 2009, in the emergency room at Provena United Medical Center in Danville, IL. Brian was born October 26, 1940 in Danville, IL the son of Kent and Irene (Shake) Schulz. His mother, Irene, died in 1945. Brians dad married Dolly Phillips in 1947 and together they finished raising him. Brian graduated from Danville High School in 1958. He held a variety of jobs after serving our country as a United States Marine (1958-1965). Brian retired from Illinois Power in 1995 where he was a power plant operator at Vermilion Power Station. He married Sandra Shafer in 1984. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in May. Brian had an inventors mind and his own unique way of telling a story. His life-long passion was fishing and he thoroughly enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the sport with others, most recently his grandchildren. Brian was an avid hunter in his younger years and took up trap shooting last year. He was a member of the Vermilion Fishing Club and the Westville Sportsmens Club. He was a true-blue Cubs baseball and Illini basketball fan. Brian was preceded in death by his parents: mother Irene (1945), father Kent (1987), stepmother Dolly (1998). He was also preceded in death by an infant son, William Kent Schulz, in 1965. Survivors include his wife, four children, twelve grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. Brians children are Penny (Brett) Karanovich of Richmond, IN; Gerald (Jenny) Schulz of Waunakee, Wisconsin; Steven (Hollie) Schulz of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin; Christina (Scott) Webb of Lane, Illinois. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Nancy) Schulz of Trabuco Canyon, California, and brother-in-law, Ron Shafer of Franklin Park, IL. Brians nieces and nephews from both sides of the family thought he was pretty special too. A celebration of Brians life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday June 23, 2009 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel 414 S. State St. Westville, IL. Burial will be at Allhands Cemetery.
