Bonnie Jeanne Whitaker

Bonnie Jeanne (Pritchard) Whitaker, 75, of Covington, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at The Waters of Covington. She was born on May 5, 1948, in Danville, IL, the daughter of Francis and Dorothy (Sheppard) Pritchard. She was soon joined by her twin sister, Connie (Kendall) Wilson, she survives. She contracted and survived Polio at the age of 5, which left her with lifelong medical conditions she battled throughout her life. Bonnie graduated from Covington High School in 1966 and soon after married Steve Whitaker on September 25, 1966, Unfortunately the marriage was dissolved in 1980. She went on to single handedly raising four independent, stubborn, and sometimes bossy daughters, Alora (Ben) Smith, Jeri (A.J. Latoz) Whitaker, Danielle (Dan) Callahan, and Mary (David) Barnes. Bonne did this at a time when it was difficult and uncommon for a single divorced woman to succeed. She worked hard and the years were tough, but she persevered. She worked at the Hoopeston Hospital and the V.A. Medical Center from which she retired. Her daughters gifted her with 19 grandchildren, Brad David, Bryan David, Jessica Fowler, Cortney Watson, Katelyn Watson, Bethany Watson, Jason Pate, Nadia Oquendo, Hannah Weller, Bailey Pate, Mike Callahan, Maddy Smalley, Cory Callahan, Desiray Schwartz, Devin Schwartz. Darah Montalvo, Delora Brown, Danica Barnes, and Dalton Barnes. She is also survived by 23 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Daryl Pritchard, and former spouse, Steve Whitaker. Bonnie enjoyed shopping, watching old classic movies, collecting angel figurines, and other whimsical items she couldnt resist. She cherished all the time she spent visiting with her daughters and grandchildren. A Celebration of Bonnies life will be held at 6:00pm EST on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 420 3rd St, Covington, IN, with Keith Klossner officiating the service. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00pm EST at the funeral home prior to the service. per Bonnies wishes she will be cremated following the services.
