Bobbi Jean Higgins

Bobbi Jean Higgins, 80, of Champaign, IL, formerly of Minneapolis MN, passed away peacefully at 5:14 am on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at home. She was born July 9, 1935 in Mankato, MN, the daughter of Norval and Loyal Lenertz Anderson. She married Bob Higgins on November 12, 1955 in Minneapolis, MN. He preceded her in death on September 27, 2003. Survivors include her four children, MaryJane (Alan) Henning of Phoenix, AZ, Patrick Higgins of Minneapolis, MN, Martin (Liz) Higgins of Brooklyn Park, MN, and Catherine (John) McConkey of Champaign; and 6 grandchildren, Tim Henning, Kyle Higgins, Caitlin Higgins, Ami Maunder, Sean Higgins, and Erin McConkey; and 1 great grandchild, Adam Larkin. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Karen. As a young woman Bobbi was an expert baton twirler, Anoka High School drum majorette, and founder of Bobbi Jean's High Steppers. Over the years she and her husband raised and fostered many Great Danes. She was a Toastmaster for many years, and was a florist and homemaker. Bobbi's unwavering faith in her Lord Jesus was a comfort to her and an inspiration to her friends. Bobbi's son-in-law John McConkey also lost his mother, Donetta Logan, on April 2. Bobbi and Donetta were great friends, and called themselves the "mighty, mighty grandmas." To honor their friendship, the family will celebrate their lives in a joint memorial service. A celebration of the life of Bobbi Higgins will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Stone Creek Church, 2502 S Race Street in Urbana, with Pastor Ricky Spindler officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 on Thursday prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made in Bobbi's name to Carle Hospice or Stone Creek Church.
