Newport, Ind. -- Bob L. Sollars, 59, of Newport, passed away at 11:30 a.m. EDT Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born August 16, 1950 in Clinton, Indiana, the son of the late Pete and Katherine Pearman Sollars. He married Yvette Jones on March 29, 1974 in Clinton, Indiana. She survives. Other survivors include: two daughters, Tonia Sollars of Montezuma, Indiana and Adella Sollars of Newport, Indiana; one son, Robert Sollars of Newport, Indiana; three grandchildren, Kali Doan of Montezuma, Indiana; Calvin and Thelma Doan both of Newport, Indiana; two sisters, Karen(John)Ellis of Newport, Indiana; Janet(Jim)Fiock of Montezuma, Indiana; one brother, Sammy(Mia)Montgomery of Carmel, Indiana; two sister in laws, Yolanda(David)Atterbury and Yvonne Jones both of Montezuma, Indiana; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Michael Sollars; one sister, Joyce Montgomery; infant sister, Janice Gray. Bob was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1969 through 1970. He was awarded three Purple Hearts, one with a cluster. Bob was a member of the Church of God in Newport, Indiana. He was a big Bobby Knight fan. Bob enjoyed mushrooming, hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren playing sports. Funeral services: 10 a.m. EDT Monday, October 12, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor John Hawkins; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana with military graveside rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post 263; Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the funeral home.
