Billy Swisher

Danville Billy Lee Swisher, 86, of Danville passed away on June 16, 2023 at 11:50 PM at Heritage Healthcare in Hoopeston, IL.

Billy was born on September 12, 1936 the son of Tex and Gladys (Casebeer) Swisher in Danville, IL. He married Sondra Phelps on January 28, 1955 in Danville, IL and she preceded him in death on January 3, 2013.

Survivors include his children, Toni (Keith) Downing, Rossville, IL, Steve (Ronda) Swisher of Danville, IL, and Teresa Swisher Bailey of Lowell, AR, ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren.

Billy is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sondra Swisher, his son, Billy E Swisher, a grandson, Lindsey Keith Downing, brother, Robert Swisher, sisters, Patricia Wiggins and Margaret Swisher and a great-granddaughter, Kenleigh Washington.

Billy served his country in the United States Army. He retired from CSX Railroad where he worked as a Switchman and later as a Yardmaster. He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending his free time fishing, mushroom hunting, watching airplanes and attending Air Shows. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, and skydiving.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, Illinois 61834. James Blue will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park with Military rites accorded by American Legion Post 210. Visitation will be held from Noon-2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Billys memory to a charity of the donors choice.
