Cayuga, Ind. - Billy 'Jack' Holycross, 85, of Cayuga passed away at 9:08 p.m. EST Sunday, March 1, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born March 16, 1934 in Danville, Illinois the son of the late Kleemon and Nancy (Swank) Holycross.

Jack married Mary Ingram June 15, 1958 in Danville, Illinois and together they enjoyed 61 years of marriage.

Also surviving is a daughter: Lori Holycross of Cayuga, Indiana; a son: Tim (Leslie) Holycross of Danville, Illinois; four brothers: Gene (Clovia) Holycross, Jerry (Reva) Holycross, Dean (Kathy) Holycross and Don (Diane) Holycross; two sisters: Mary (Bob) Allen and Marg Steffey; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy Carithers.

Jack was a graduate of Oakwood High School. At a young age Jack felt compelled to serve his Lord and Savior and went on to attend Lincoln Bible Institute graduating with a bachelors degree. Professionally, Jack worked as a minister for 60 years and was a current member of the State Line Christian Church. During that time he also worked as a rural mail carrier. Jack was also known for being quite the handyman. With this attribute, he was known for going above and beyond helping others whenever he could. His eagerness to learn new things led him to starting music lessons at the young age of 84. Jack will also be remembered for being devoted to his children, grandchildren and their extracurricular activities by almost never missing their events. In his spare time, Jack enjoyed his flowers, gardening, old trains, old military aircraft and spending time with family.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. EST Thursday, March 5, 2020 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating Minister: Carl Huxford; Burial: Sunset Memorial Park in Danville, Illinois; Visitation: 6-8 p.m. EST Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at the funeral home. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is honored to be caring for the Holycross family.
