Bill Silver 89, of Champaign, passed peacefully at Amber Glen in Urbana, on Sunday, February 12, 2023, with his family at his side. Bill was born on November 14, 1933, in Hoopeston, IL., the only child of George and Lucille Silver. They precede him in death. During his senior year at John Greer High School in Hoopeston, Bill attended a dance and met a beautiful gal from Danville, who forever changed his life. Following his graduation from high school, on Dec. 28, 1952, he married Georgia M. Weaver of Danville. In December of 2022 they celebrated their 70th anniversary. Georgia survives. The couple raised two children; Vicki (Bill) Seeber of Champaign and Robert (Marsha) Silver of Sadorus. Bill is grandfather to five; Chad (Amber) Seeber, Nik (Kate) Seeber, Layton (Geo) Seeber, Wesley (Stephanie) Silver, Rachel (Tim) Edwards and six great grandchildren; Gabe, Peighton, Greyson and William Seeber, Banyan and Felix Edwards. Following Bill and Georgia's wedding in 1952, Bill began his career as a member of the bricklayers, masons and plasterers international union of America. Bill retired as an active member in 1995. In the spring of 1954, not long after the birth of their first child, Bill narrowly survived injuries sustained from a 40-foot fall while working on a church in Hoopeston. Throughout his career, Bill participated in the construction of numerous buildings throughout central Illinois and for several years, was involved with the apprenticeship training program for the bricklayers union. Bill was an avid outdoors man whose hobbies included fishing and golf. He also enjoyed following University of Illinois sports and St. Louis Cardinal baseball. Bill was a storyteller and was known to embellish some of his fishing tales. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always valued time spent with his family. Bill was also known to be a very loyal friend and was a great listener. In 1971, Bill began a 50+ year friendship with Bill W. Together, they touched the lives of many. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 1:00 - 3:00pm with a service immediately following, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 710 N. Neil St. Champaign, IL. 61820 In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church in Champaign.
