Bill Nicholson Conard, age 97, of Danville, IL, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, in Lafayette, IN. Born on June 14, 1927, to the late Mabel and Jonah Conard, Bill lived a full and meaningful life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and a love for his community.
Bill was a proud graduate of the University of Illinois, earning his degree in history in 1950. He served in the Navy in his early twenties. He went on to become the owner and operator of State Line Elevator, where his commitment to excellence and integrity defined his career until his retirement in 1995.
Bill married the love of his life on April 25, 1987, Marilyn, with whom he built a strong and loving family. He was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Conard, daughters Debbie Pabst (Gaylin) and Kim Vick (Anthony), grandchildren Jason Downes, Jenna Downes, Holly Myles (Allen), Lindsey Vick (Daniel Leazenby), Chelsea Redwine, and Timothy Vick (Kenzie), beloved great-grandchildren Blaine, Avery, and Adaline Myles, Jade, Rowyn, and Trey Redwine, Colt and Henry Leazenby, Paisley and Porter Vick and sister, Carol Hake.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two children Eric and Heidi Conard, five sisters, Phyllis Conard, Mary O. Conard, Peggy White (Bob), Barbara Elliott (Chalmers), Pat Underwood (Woody), one brother, Jack Conard (Maerene), and brother-in-law, Norman Hake.
An avid golfer, Bill found joy on the course and built lasting friendships through the sport. He was also a passionate supporter of the University of Illinois basketball and football, always cheering on the Fighting Illini with pride.
Bill’s warmth, wisdom, and sense of humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly and the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be shared with family and friends.
