Beverly Joy Smiley

TILTON - Beverly Joy (Peg) Colby Smiley, 88 of Tilton, passed away at 11:10AM on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Gardenview Manor on Tilton-Catlin Road. She was born on March 25, 1928 to Glen and Hazel (Osborn) Colby. Peg married George Robert (Bob) Smiley on August 31, 1946. Her preceded her in death on October 9, 2011. Peg is survived by her children, Mike (Sue) Smiley of Oakwood, IL; Jim (Sheri) of Danville, IN; Debby (Sam) Howard of Tilton, IL; and Laury Connor of Tilton, IL; 8 grandchildren; 18 1/2 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild, sister Mary Jo Garwal of Holtville, CA; brothers Jim (Marilyn) Colby of Rosewood, IL and Norman (Judy) Colby of West Lebanon, IN; numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. We want to thank Marge Bryant for being a dear friend and great roommate as well as the wonderful staff that provided care at Gardenview Manor and Transitions Hospice Care . She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 3 sisters, 4 brothers and 1 grandson. She was a waitress/hostess at many area restaurants for over 50 years as well as worked at William Davies Meat Packing Company. Peg was a life time member of the United Church of Tilton and served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deaconess and on several committees. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and listening to Christian music. Her family and friends will especially miss her smile and unconditional love. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10AM Tuesday, June 14, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N Vermilion St, Danville, IL. Officiating will be Brian Youhas. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8PM Monday, June 13 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the United Church of Tilton.
