Rossville - Beverly "Joan" Burns, 92, of Rossville, IL peacefully passed away March 15, 2024, at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Hoopeston, Illinois.
Joan was born in Hoopeston, IL on December 13,1931, the daughter of Russell Pickrell Sr. and Jewell Hutsler Pickrell. She married John M. Burns of Rossville on April 8, 1950, and were married just short of 70 yrs.
Survivors include her son, Steven A. Burns of Rossville, IL, and a daughter Julia A. Burns Lane of Herscher, IL; 9 grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Manjarres of Lawrenceville, GA, Debbie (Jud) Douglass of Shelby, NC, Kevin (Leah) Burns of Lenoir, NC, Kerrie Willks of Indianapolis, IN, Lisa (David) Millington of Southlake, Texas, Holly Burns of Berea, Kentucky, Keith (Leanna) Burns of McCordsville, Indiana, Caleb Lane of Kankakee, IL, and Cody Lane of Indianapolis, IN, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and a sister, Sally Hunt of Fort Myers, FL. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews and her dear church family of Rossville Church of Christ.
Joan is proceeded in death by her parents, son Michael J. Burns, husband John M. Burns, her sister Peggy Edwards, brother Russell Pickrell Jr., and sweet little family dog, "Toby".
Joan attended Hoopeston schools. She was a detached leads operator for 30 years with General Electric, later known as Valmont. She always enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed spending time with her husband in the afternoon while drinking a cup of coffee and visiting for hours around the kitchen table. Joan was a wonderful cook and known for her talents in homemade pie making. She was known to make every pie imaginable and demonstrated her talents in other areas such as calligraphy, drawing, writing poetry, and riding high on her horses in parades. Additional hobbies included watching game shows, and working in the yard and planting flowers. Joan had a beautiful voice and provided church specials harmonizing in a trio with her friends, Florence Ellis and Delores Pepple. She was a member of the Rossville Church of Christ and was very active in teaching Sunday school, singing church specials, and enjoyed her involvement with Vacation Bible School.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Beverly "Joan" Burns will be held at 12 PM at the Rossville Church of Christ on Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 a.m. at the Rossville Church of Christ prior to the service. Pastor Kevin Purdy will be officiating the service along with church elder and close family friend, Neil Ellis. Burial will follow at Rossville Cemetery. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St., Danville, IL 61834 has been entrusted with arrangements.
