BEVERLY J. LONG Beverly J. Long, 76, of Danville, passed away March 19, 2010, at her home after a long battle with Alzheimers. Beverly was born April 28, 1933, the daughter of Cecil and Berneice Tallman. She grew up in the Fountain County, Indiana area graduating from Kingman High School in 1951. Beverly moved to Danville to attend St. Elizabeth School of Nursing, graduating in 1955 as a registered nurse. During her nursing career she worked for Dr. Everett Laurys private practice, St. Elizabeth Hospital and Americana Nursing Home in Danville. She married Charles E. Long on February 13, 1957. He survives along with their two sons Jeffrey (Debbie) Long of Hoopeston and Matthew (Amanda) Long of Danville and three daughters, Charlene (Charles) Mornout, Melanie (Richard) Wrensch and Stephanie (Dan) Sloan of Danville; and ten grandchildren Raymond (Melissa), Zachary (Bethany), Elizabeth, Song (Yoevita) and Teresa Wrensch, Justin and Erin Mornout, Robert and Seth Sloan and Maci Long. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one niece and one great-nephew. She was very involved in her childrens lives participating in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA, DHS Music Boosters as well as being active in Altrusa, Nurses Alumni Association, DAR, and her church. Beverly and her husband bought Anker Florist from the Zepplin family in 1985 moving it from its original location at the corner of Seminary and Jackson to its current location on Hazel Street. She worked to make it one of the leading florists in the Vermilion County area until her illness prevented her from continuing on. The shop is still owned by her husband and operated by her daughter. Beverly was a member of Second Church of Christ in Danville her entire married life and was active with the Missions Ministry Team. She had a sincere passion for the people of Haiti and traveled there on numerous mission trips often encouraging friends and church family to travel with her. Three of her children and one niece had the honor of traveling with her and one grandchild has made four different trips because of Beverlys influence and love for the Haitian people. Beverly will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A Celebration of the life of Beverly J. Long will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Danville National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Northwest Haiti Christian Mission, Versailles, KY or Second Church of Christ, Danville, IL c/o the Missions Ministry Team.
