Danville - Beverly J. Kuidlan "Bev" was born July 2, 1946, in Danville, IL. She was the daughter of Ollie E. and Dorothy J. (Butler) Swank. She married Oscar M. "Tito" Kuidlan on December 27, 1977, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. "Bev" is survived by one son, Francisco O. "Paco" (Mandi) Kuidlan of Hollywood, MD, four grandchildren, Cody Dare of Hollywood, MD, Jenna (Anthony) Miedzinski of Jacksonville, NC, Joselyn Kuidlan, and Chayton Kuidlan, both of Hollywood, MD, one sister, Lesley Kay (Gary) Kentgen of Osseo, WI, as well as several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by special friends, Pastor Curtis and Joyce Cox, Sylva Reasor, Bill and Jane Drebus, Keith and Marilyn Bouslog, Pastor Jim and Mary Ford, and Jill Fouts. "Bev" was preceded in death by her parents, husband, "Tito", one brother, Robert Leslie "Bob" Swank, maternal grandmother, Tessa M. (Huffman) Butler, paternal grandparents, Lora O. Swank and Hazel D. (Rohrer) Swank as well as several aunts and uncles. "Bev" attended Cannon Grade School in Danville, IL and graduated from Danville High School in 1963, with honors and membership in the National Honor Society. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education and Teaching (K-14) from Eastern Illinois University (cum laude) in Charleston, Illinois, a degree in Bible (Old Testament History) and Missions from St. Louis Christian College, in Florissant, Missouri, and completed other Biblical studies from Lincoln Christian College, in Lincoln, Illinois. "Bev" later received her Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois (magma cum laude). "Bev" played for several summers in the Danville Municipal Band. In the summer of 1969, she started and directed a Remedial Reading Camp, that also included learning English as a second language (ESL) for children and later, for adults. The camp was off the coast of Charleston, S. Carolina, and served the children from the Sea Islands. These islands included James, John, Edisto, Youngs, and Wadmalow. This mission project was staffed by high school and college youth and their chaperones on a two-week schedule. The program assisted the children in retaining the English language and reading skills, making the transition back to public school easier each fall. The adults in the program were relatives of the children, but didn't know or recognize the English language. These people lived far back into the islands, spoke only the Gullah dialect (non-written), and have practiced witchcraft (voodoo) most of their life. In 1976, "Bev" traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico, as a missionary, teaching sixth grade in Spanish. During the evenings, all of the missionaries met together to teach the families and individuals about the love of God; the sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus Christ; and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Many were obedient to the Lord's command of baptism and the receiving gift of the Holy Spirit, and their salvation. This mission trip and endeavor was cut short as "Bev" returned stateside to assist in caring for her ill mother. She still managed to teach in three consolidated school districts - Effingham, Shelbyville, and Danville, retiring after teaching for 32 years. "Bev" was a member of Lone Oak Church of Christ in Danville where she spent several years teaching Sunday School classes, coaching the Bible Bowl team, and serving as the church organist.
