Beverly Anne (Kirby) Irvin, 79, of Urbana, passed away at 8:45pm, Sunday, April 30, 2017, at her home. She was born on February 16, 1938, in Ludlow, IL, the daughter of Kenneth & Mae (Brownfield) Kirby, both deceased. She was united in marriage to Lewis Dean Irvin on November 22, 1955, he precedes her in death. She will be dearly missed by: her daughters, Kathleen (Gregory) Burr of Philo, Michelle (Larry) Roberts of Penfield & Eva Douglas of Oakwood; four grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great- grandsons; several nieces and nephews. Beverly worked for the telephone company as an operator before her second child was born. Then was a stay at home mom. After her third child was in school she went to work at the Gifford Nursing Home, first in the laundry then kitchen. She later worked at Norma's Restaurant in Gifford where she made life long friends. But she was most proud of the time she spent as the head cook at Armstrong High School. She loved being around all the kids and many of them considered her another grandma. She earned two Golden Ruler Awards for her outstanding service there. She retired from there and stayed in touch with many of the children she fed. Everyone loved the meals she provided. She belonged to the American Legion. She loved to crochet and made sure each of the grandchildren and great grandchildren got afghan from her. She also liked singing, drawing and loved watching NASCAR (Dale Jr. was her man). She loved her family with all her heart. She made new "family" with those she adopted from Champaign Urbana Dialysis & her care givers at Prairie Winds Assisted Living. Her family has chosen to honor her wishes to have a private graveside service. Sunset Funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial donations can be made to the National kidney foundation in Memory of Beverly A. Irvin.
