Bettye Swansbro

Bettye R. Swansbro, 80, of Danville, died at 4:40 am on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at North Logan Healthcare Center in Danville. She was born May 3, 1925 in Lexington, Kentucky the daughter of William Earl and Mary (Wilson) Ritchey. She married Dr. William J. Swansbro on July 7, 1945 in Lexington, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1983. Bettye is survived by four daughters: Sharon (Terry) Maggart of Jacksonville, IL, Mary Lou (Tom) Stone of Danville, IL, Debra (Jerry) Holycross of Oakwood, IL, Linda (Mike) Cox of Ann Arbor, Michigan; one sister: Margaret Lansdale of Lexington, Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Laura (Robert) Atkins, Megan Drake, Tamara (Randy) Wilson, Nicholas (Sara) Holycross, Jared Maggart, Michelle Cox, Joseph Holycross, Ashley Cox, Elizabeth Holycross; three great grandchildren: Michael Holycross, Lars Holycross, Whitney Wilson; and also many nieces, nephews, family, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother: William Ritchey, one sister: Norma Highland, and two grandchildren: Kristopher and Kyle Maggart. Bettye worked along side her husband in his medical office many years in Danville, IL. Bettye enjoyed music, dancing, and drama. She was an avid supporter of Danville Red Mask Players and Danville Light Opera. Bettye volunteered in activities at Americana Nursing Home (Now know as North Logan Healthcare Center), and also at both the Lakeview and St. Elizabeth Hospital gift shops. She enjoyed reading, traveling, playing cards, crafts, sewing, helping with her daughters school activities, and having a great time with family and friends. She was an active member of Central Christian Church of Danville for fifty years where she was a member of the Co-Ed class, Christian Women Fellowship, and was a nursery volunteer. She was also a member of the Elks Club, American Legion Post 210 Auxiliary, American Medical Auxiliary, Danville Garden Club, and was involved with numerous bridge clubs.
