Betty Jane Werner, age 88 of Danville, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at 7:43 AM at Hawthorne Inn Nursing Home in Danville. She was born January 23, 1927 in State College, PA the daughter of Saylor John and Ethyl May (Weaver) Knarr. They resided in Altoona, PA in her early years. Survivors include two daughters: Meg (Jeff) Williams of Crossville, TN and Kim (Mike) Henry of Bismarck, IL. Betty was a proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren: Amie Roark, Laura Foust, Greg Roark, Luke Proffitt of Crossville, TN, Mason Henry of Bloomington, IL and Ross Henry of Danville, IL. Betty also was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, and her husband of 42 years, Ted Werner. Betty was an executive secretary for Baker Electric, prior to marrying Ted in 1961. She became a devoted homemaker, a talented gardener, and she enjoyed playing golf, watching football and cooking. Her baking skills were appreciated by many, particularly by her grandchildren. Regardless of their football history, she was a true Bears fan and loved to watch golf until the downfall of Tiger Woods. Betty spent the past 6 years battling dementia and then Alzheimer's Disease. She resided at Hawthorne Inn the past four and a half years where she received excellent care from their staff and her faithful caregiver, Louisa. To remember this special lady, in lieu of flowers, please inspire others to discover the world of gardening by making a donation in her honor to the University of Illinois Extension-Master Gardner's Program, 3164 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61832/ 217-442-8615. Per Betty's request, a private remembrance for the family will take place after she is cremated.
