Betty Maxine Smith

Betty Maxine Smith, a cherished soul, was born on December 23, 1926, in Danville, Illinois, and departed this life on March 27, 2025, in her beloved hometown. A long-time member of Plymouth Church and then DUCC but now is Christ Way Church in Danville, Betty’s faith and community spirit were a guiding light throughout her life.

Betty dedicated herself to helping her husband on the farm, embodying the spirit of hard work and dedication. She was employed at Bergners later in life where she made many friends, she knew anyone in the store by name. Her love for cooking and baking, especially her renowned chocolate pie with meringue, created countless cherished memories for those who had the pleasure of enjoying her culinary delights. A graduate of Danville High School, she nurtured not only her family but also her passions, including the companionship of her cats, Tuffy and Wiggles, and the joy that came from completing jigsaw puzzles.

She is survived by her loving nieces, Kendra (Casey) Baker McClure, Glenda (Frank) Jones Gerulski, Sue (Don) Bouslog Tate, and Connie (Jerry) Mingee Armstrong, as well as her nephew, John (Deborah) Bouslog.

She now joins her dearly departed family, which includes her husband Kenneth Smith, her father Louis "Pop" Walter, her mother Mable Walter, and her sisters Willetta Mae Jones, Bernice Bouslog, Mary Ellen Yarusinsky, and Helen Mingee. Also welcoming her in remembrance are her nephew Wayne Mingee and niece Sharon Baker, along with her sister-in-law Myra Jones.
