Betty Ann Rudy, 74, of Richland, MI, formerly of Oakwood, died on Saturday, October 28, 2006 at The Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo, MI from cancer complications. Betty was born August 2, 1932, in Brownington, MO, the daughter of Clyde A. and Virginia R. (Diesel) Edwards. She married Jack W. Rudy on July 22, 1949 in Godfrey, IL. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1998. Betty is survived by four children, Linda S. (William) Burd of Oak Park, IL, Jack W. Rudy, Jr. of Richland, MI, Scott E. (Andrea) Rudy of Danville, and Teri A. (Gary) Young of Gibson City, IL; six grandchildren, William E. Burd II and Jack A. Burd both of Oak Park, IL, Nicole M. (Brian) Varvel of Oakwood, Chad A. Rudy of Danville, and Nathan A. Young and Madison F. Young both of Gibson City, IL; two sisters, Shirley King of Alton, IL and Carolyn Whiteside of Wichita, KS and one brother, Emery Edwards of Alton, IL. Over the years, Betty had lived in several Illinois cities including Alton, Danville, Springfield, Gibson City and Oakwood, where she was a long time resident. She moved to Richland, MI five months ago to live with her son Jack. Betty was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother first, but she had worked for Illinois Bell as a phone operator and from 1976-1986 owned and operated the Blue Room Caf(c) in Oakwood. She had many hobbies, some of which were gardening, sewing, crocheting, knitting, and quilting. Betty liked to go gambling in Las Vegas and on river boats. She also enjoyed refinishing furniture and doing upholstery. Betty had a true love for poetry and reading. Her children and grandchildren often called her Betty Crocker for her wonderful talents in cooking and baking. Betty participated in many community efforts throughout her life. She was a local Brownie and Cub Scout leader and assistant and an Oakwood Grade School teachers helper. Betty was a member of the Oakwoods Womens Club. She was a member of several Presbyterian churches throughout her life, where she was a Sunday school teacher and assistant. A celebration of Bettys life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Sunsets Oakwood Chapel with Rev. Scott Henley officiating.
