Betty Reed

Danville - Betty J. Reed, 89, of Danville, IL, formerly of Oaklawn, IL and Selma, CA, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home with her daughter and son-in-law by her bedside. Betty was born November 6, 1924 in Chrisman, IL and raised in Ridge Farm. She was the daughter of Ernest and Marie (White) Hackler. She married Eugene Reed on July 4, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1974. Betty retired from Miles Laboratories as a computer operation supervisor. Prior to getting sick, Betty enjoyed her family and traveling. Betty is survived by her son, Michael (Grace) Reed of Fresno, CA; daughter, Patsy (James) Dokey of Danville, IL; five grandchildren, Matthew Reed; Amanda (Richard) Ellis; Lisa (Chuck) Miller; Mike (Missy) Dokey, Jimmy (Cindy Dokey; and eleven great-grandhcildren; one great-great grandchild; her sister-in-law, Maydelle Hackler of Ridge Farm, IL; her brother-in-law, James Ryan of Danville, IL; and special nephews, Donald R. (Lisa) Hackler, Gary (LaDonna) Hackler and Steve (Elaine) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Donald M. Hackler; sister, Ona Mae Ryan, and her grandson, Shawn Reed. Betty loved her family and loved her Lord. She would often say that she was ready to go home and would tell Him she was ready; to which He would tell her, “It wasnt her time.” The family celebrates her life and rejoices in knowing that she was finally called home and is in the arms of Jesus. A celebration of life memorial service for Betty will be on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, IL. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm, IL. Memorials may be made in Bettys name to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
