Betty Lowry of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Danville, Illinois, passed away at 9:00 a.m. June 2, 2012. Born Betty Lorraine Henry in Hammond, Indiana on February 26, 1925 she was the daughter of Curtis Alvin and Ann Grether Henry. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. One brother, Alvin Henry survives. Her husband, David Lowry survives. David and Betty were married in May 1995. They kept a residence in Fort Myers, Florida and were snowbirds for more than 12 years. They enjoyed traveling together and visiting David's children ,Michael and Mark. They were named guests of honor at Perry, Florida's Forrest Festival while traveling there one winter. Betty was married to her loving husband and father of her children, George Rushin August 9, 1945 until his death in 1986. Her positive energy continues to live on in their four children, Linda Lierman (Fred); Jeffery Rushin ( Deborah); Michele Delatte (Richard); and Tamara Miller (David) as well as her grandchildren Jamie, Keri, Christopher, Katy,Michael, ,Jessica, Jacob, Lauren, Lindsay and Jeffery. Betty was known as "GG" to her great- grandchildren Nicholas, Jacob, Madison, Mason, Addison, Nicholas, Hunter, Alyssa,Kerrigan and Savannah. Betty married Calvin Showers in June 1989 who preceded her in death in September 1992. They made many special memories with Mark and Kathy Showers and their children, Cody and Thomas Showers and Cal's extended family. Betty's creative spirit and beautiful personality was evident in her artwork including oil and watercolor painting, and drawings and sculptures for which she won many awards. She was an accomplished artist who participated in many local art shows including Arts in the Park. Betty was a member of the Danville Art League and served as president. She taught many art classes and received training from renowned professors of art. Betty was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Danville, Illinois and served on many committees. She taught several art classes at St. Paul's School. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Hospital Auxillary for several years. Betty attended the Church of the Resurrection and St. Columbkille Catholic Churches in Fort Myers, Florida. Betty enjoyed spending time in her garden with her family and friends. Her beautiful patio showcased her gardening skills. She had a knack for growing roses and loved being in the fresh air, the water and the sunshine. A private, family service was held at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, in Fort Myers, Florida on June 5, 2012. A burial service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville at a later date. Donations may be made in Betty's honor to Schlarman High School, St. Paul's Catholic Church, or the Danville Art League in Danville, Illinois.
