Betty Louise Nicholas

Betty Louise Nicholas, 96 of Westville, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 at 4:49 AM at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Danville. She was born October 23, 1919 in Youngstown, OH to Charles and Jeanette (Jones) Brading. Betty married William Paul Nicholas on July 1, 1942 in Danville. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1977. Betty is survived by her children, William Lee (Susie) Nicholas of Lakeland, FL, Judith Anne (Mike) Petrus of Catlin, and Mary Louise (John) Watkins of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Molly Nicholas of Lakeland, FL, Michael (Patty) Petrus of Jemison, AL, Susan (Michael Gordon) Petrus of Birmingham, AL, Mary (Roger Stites) Petrus of Birmingham, AL, Laura (David Whiteside) Watkins of Los Angeles, CA, Elizabeth (John) Nelson of Augusta, GA; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, John, Vienna, Dorian, Ava, Hume, Isabella, Arwin, Alia, Jason, Tim, and Tilia; six great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends who loved her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband and parents. Betty was a very skilled and knowledgeable nurse working as a LPN. She enjoyed working for over 38 years at Lakeview Hospital until her retirement in 1987. Betty was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville. She was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, Westville American Legion post #53 Women's Auxiliary, and the Westville Walkers. In her spare time, you could find Betty doing crossword puzzles or doing cross stitch and needlework. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing games of all sorts. Most of all her family will miss her sense of humor. A celebration of Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westville. Father Timothy Sauppe will officiate. Betty will be laid to rest at Songer Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to mass from 11-1 PM Friday, June 10, 2016 at Sunset-Urbas Funeral Chapel in Westville. Memorials can be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association.
