Covington, Ind. - Betty Louise (Gill) Young, 96, formerly of Cayuga and a resident of The Waters of Covington passed away at 12:15 a.m. CST Friday, March 11, 2022 at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, Illinois.

Betty was born on February 20, 1926 in Tangier, Indiana the daughter of the late James E. and Hester E. (Russell) Newnum.

Betty first married Richard Young. He preceded her in death at an early age. She later married Franklin Wayne Gill on April 12, 1947 in Danville, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 19, 1990. From this marriage were their three children (surviving): James (Gina) Gill of Dayton, Ohio; Edie McCoy of Georgetown, Illinois and Donna Henderson of Tilton, Illinois; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive, along with her sister: Barbara Kiger of Tangier, Indiana. Betty later married Robert Young in July of 2001. He preceded her in death in May of 2013.

Betty was preceded in death by three brothers: Robert, Paul and Pete.

For 38 years Betty worked as a cook at North Vermillion Elementary Cafeteria, retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Cayuga Presbyterian Church and 1944 graduate of Tangier High School. She enjoyed attending North Vermillion High School basketball games, cooking, gardening, sewing and quilting.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. EDT Thursday, March 17, 2022 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Pastor Ramona Trover; Burial: Rush Creek Cemetery in Tangier, Indiana; Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. EDT Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Cayuga Presbyterian Church, PO Box 386, Cayuga, Indiana 47928-0386.
