Betty Lou Zander 88, of Urbana, IL, formerly of Danville, passed away at 8:40am on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Illini Heritage Nursing Home located in Urbana, IL. She was born on May 29, 1923, in Danville, the daughter of Fred F. and Mary F. (Burton) Smith. Both are deceased. She married Harlan Zander on December 9, 1967. He preceded her in death in 2007. Betty is survived by her two children; John (Cindy) Wargo of Danville, and Karen Henry of Champaign. Her three grandsons; Jerry Hallett, David Henry, Michael Wargo, six great-grandchildren; Bailey Hallett, Jerry Hallett, Lauryn Henry, Isaac Henry, Nathan Wargo, Owen Wargo, one great-great grandchild, her sister; Beverly Shively of Arvada, CO, her niece; Mary Lutchka, and her two special friends; Catherine Foster, and Martha Elliott also survive her. In addition to her parents and husband Harlan, her daughter; Mary Jean Hallett, and her sister; Jo Ann Smith preceded Betty in death. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Danville, and a graduate of Danville High School. She enjoyed sewing, Illini basketball, watching the Chicago Cubs with Harlan, and being with her family. A gathering of family and friends to remember and celebrate the Life of Betty Zander will be between the hours of 4-6pm on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, located at 3940 N. Vermilion Street in Danville. A committal service will be held at Springhill's chapel mausoleum beginning at 10:00am on Monday, September 19, 2011.
