Betty Lou Trosper

Tilton - Betty Lou Trosper, 92, of Tilton, formerly of Danville, IL passed away at 11:00 AM on Thursday January 26, 2017 at Gardenview Manor in Tilton. Betty Lou (Watson) Trosper was the daughter of David Leo Watson and Edna Vera (Colberg) Watson. She was born February 11, 1924 in Danville where she resided throughout her life except for her very early years when her family lived in Oakwood. Due to the early death of her mother, Betty was unable to attend school (which she loved) beyond the eighth grade because she had to stay at home to care for younger siblings. Betty spent her final years in the Vermilion Manner nursing home following a debilitating fall several years ago. Betty had three siblings, an older half-sister Lucille (Koepke) Gudowski, a younger sister Maxine (Watson) Connely and a younger brother Harold B. Watson. All of Betty's siblings preceded her in death. Betty was married to John W. Trosper in 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1994. John often referred to Betty loving as "Sarg", because she typically took charge and directed activity around her. John, the love of her life, brought a son, John E. Trosper into the marriage and Betty brought two children, Donna L. Hill (Hood) and Larry B. Hill (a.k.a. - Grumpy) into the marriage. Betty and John had two sons, both of whom preceded Betty in death as well as one daughter, Donna, who preceded her in death. Ronald W. Trosper (a.k.a. - Uggie) is survived by his long time love Peggy Jaeger Boggess and Terry N. Trosper (a.k.a. - Dode) survived by his wife Maralee (Tabels) Trosper. In addition to her own children whom she raised with great caring and loving, she and John raised two other sons; John W. (Marianne) Kingore (Bill) and Larry S. (Ethel) Kingore. Betty was an outstanding seamstress who worked in the garment industry in Danville for many years. She worked at the Danville Glove Factory during WWII where she became friends with Mary Trosper (Bartlow), who introduced to her future husband, John Trosper. In the post war years she worked at a local jacket factory for several years and then became a long term employee of Alexander's Sporting Goods from the late 1950's into the 1970's where she thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with customers. In addition to working outside of the home and managing a large household, Betty remained active in the school P.T.A. during the tenure of her children at Hooton and Daniel schools. Her message to each child starting to school was, "if you have a problem with a teacher or the principle, you are going to have a problem with me when you get home". She was an ardent fan of the Little League supported in South Danville during the 1950's by the G.M. Foundry in Tilton and was a long-time fan of the Danville Police Department who sponsored the team on which her three sons played. Betty has a large loving family that is made up of (13) grandchildren, (35) great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. We are hopeful that all of the many generations that are coming after Betty Lou Trosper will understand what a strong and wonderful person she was - self-reliant, hardworking, compassionate of the less fortunate and "spit in your eye" determine to do what she needed to do to look after her own.
