Betty Lou Brown

Cayuga, Ind. - Betty Lou Brown, 91, a resident of Clinton Gardens in Clinton, Indiana for the past four years and formerly of Cayuga, passed away at 7:30 a.m. EDT Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Clinton Gardens.

Betty was born December 13, 1925 in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of the late John and Minnie (Lowe) Young.

She married Max Willis Brown on December 7, 1949 in Ringold, Georgia. He preceded her in death in 1972.

Survivors include her daughter, Eleanor (Danny) Wesch of Cayuga, Indiana; grandson, Joel (Jill) Wesch of Cayuga, Indiana, and three great grandchildren, Landon; Lily and Lukas.

Betty was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Kincaid, and three brothers, Herbert; Kelso and Loyal Young.

Betty came to Cayuga and began her working career as a receptionist/nurse assistant for Dr. Ralph E. Brown. From there she went to work at the Cayuga License Branch. Betty helped at Andy's Cafe as a waitress and cook and she baked pies until the restaurant closed in the early 1970's. During those years she served as Cayuga Town Clerk. She managed the Cayuga 5 & 10 store until the store closed. At the age of 65 Betty began her career as a bank teller for The First Citizens Bank and worked in the evenings at Palucci's Pizza until her retirement at age 79.

She was a member of the Cayuga Presbyterian Church, former Delta Theta Tau Sorority (Cayuga) and a 50 year plus member of the O.E.S. Betty was a graduate of Georgetown High School. She enjoyed playing Bunco, and especially enjoyed crocheting. Betty loved spending time with her church friends and family.

The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to the staff of Clinton Gardens, and Heart to Heart Hospice in Terre Haute for the great care that they provided to Betty.

To help further the study of science, Betty wished for her body to be donated to the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. EDT Thursday, July 20, 2017 at the Cayuga Presbyterian Church, 410 West Curtis Street, Cayuga, Indiana 47928 with Pastor Bill Henry officiating. There will be no visitation. The family request that contributions be made to the Anatomical Education Program, Medical Science Building, Room 5035, 635 Barnhill Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202-5120. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family with arrangements.
