Betty Hartshorn Linne, aged 96, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at The Villas of Hollybrook.
Betty was born in Danville, IL to Earl Hartshorn and Lucille Ganley on March 12, 1928.
Betty married John C. (Jack) Linne on October 25, 1953.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother William Hartshorn and her husband.
Betty graduated from Danville High School in 1946, where she was involved in many clubs and organizations. She attended the University of Illinois Extension as well as Danville Junior College. After college, she became a legal secretary and worked for many years for Ralph Rouse.
In 1957, Betty and Jack welcomed their first child, Sandra (James) Dowers. Lisa (Dennis) Long arrived on May 2, 1960.
Betty was involved in many civic organizations during her long life. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and served in the womens auxiliary. She enjoyed working preparing food for funerals, Madrigal Concerts, and selling her fudge and divinity at the annual bazaar. Betty was a member of the Legal Secretaries of Vermilion County, Apollo Great Lakes Motorcoach Club, Red Cross Board, Danville Community Foundation Board, Danville Boat Club, Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, Pi Epsilon Sorority, Elks Womens Golf Association, United Way, Cancer Society, and Heart Association Board. Betty didnt let age slow her down. She was a senior volunteer at Southwest Elementary with District #118 Accelerated Reader program for many years after her retirement.
In 1984, the Danville community honored all her efforts by selecting her as Danvilles Woman of the Year. She also received the state Volunteer of the Year Award from the Red Cross.
Surviving Betty are her two daughters and their husbands, her loving grandson, Ben Dowers (Madyson Schendel), her cherished niece, Pam Hebermehl, and her nephew, Pat (Judy) Hartshorn.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Hollybrook and hospice nurses for making her last days comfortable.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Illinois, 3940 N Vermilion St. Danville, IL 61834. Reverend Dr. Don Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Catlin, IL. Visitation will be held from 9-11:00 AM on Friday, May 24 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made in Bettys memory to a charity of the donors choice.
