Rockville, Ind. - Betty L. Pierson, 96, a resident of Rockville since 2009 and formerly of Cayuga, Indiana, passed away at 6:13 a.m. EDT Monday, October 30, 2017 at her residence.
She was born March 30, 1921 in Cayuga, Indiana, the daughter of the late Fred and Ruby (Ottinger) Murdock.
Betty married Chauncey Pierson on October 8, 1937 in Goshen, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1953.
Survivors include one daughter, Wanda (Max) Hartman of Rockville, Indiana; one son, Ronnie Max (Charlotte) Pierson of Fishers, Indiana; six grandchildren, Bruce (Kim) Hartman of Rockville, Indiana; Brian (Kendra) Hartman of Indianapolis, Indiana; Michelle (Brian) Helderman of Rockville, Indiana; Dr. Jeff (Andrea) Pierson of Indianapolis, Indiana; Michael (Kevin) Pierson of Miami, Florida and Todd (Aida) Pierson of Zionsville, Indiana; twelve great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Leiter of Goshen, Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her great grandson, Derek Hartman; nine sisters and two brothers.
Betty worked for 31 years at General Electric in Danville, Illinois. She was a member of the Cayuga Christian Church and was currently attending the Rockville Christian Church. Her memberships included the Friendship Sunday School Class (Rockville), Cayuga Seniors Citizens, and a former member of the Cayuga American Legion Auxiliary Unite 263. Betty enjoyed working on her farm, cooking, baking, sewing, serving strawberry shortcake at the Vermillion County Fair, sending cards to people who were celebrating a birthday or were sick (Cayuga Christian Church), Indiana University sports, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Betty's life centered around her beloved family, and attending her grandchildren's school and athletic events.
Funeral services: Noon EDT Thursday, November 2, 2017 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Steve Vitaniemi; Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana; Visitation: 10 a.m. EDT until time of services at the funeral home.
