Betty L. Engel

Betty L. Engel, 90, of Danville passed away on August 31, 2017 at Hawthorne Inn, Danville, IL. She was born on September 11, 1926 to William J. and Blanche Long. On March 17, 1946 she married Martin Engel. They were married 68 years until his death on December 16, 2014. Betty was an executive secretary for 46 years. She started her career at Electric Eye, Hurletron, and then retired from General Electric. She was very active in the local secretaries' association. She enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends. She is survived by her brother, Merle (Jean) Long of Danville, many nieces and nephews and a special friend Irene Burgoyne. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; William E. (Glenna) Long, Donald E. (Elaine) Long, half-brother, Harlan (Sue) Long; sister Evelyn Long and half-sister, Geraldine (Cecil) Neff. A service to celebrate the life of Betty Engel will be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at 11 AM at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center 3940 North Vermilion Danville, IL 61834 with Drew Mentzer officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM prior to the service. Entombment will be at Springhill Cemetery in Danville. Memorials may be made in Betty's name to the charity of the donor's choice.
