Betty Jo Brewer, 85, a lifelong resident of Covington, passed away at 12:35 a.m. Saturday January 21, 2012 at The Waters of Covington, IN. She was born on July 27, 1926 in Covington, IN the daughter of Roscoe and Ethel (Holland) Murray. She married John W. Brewer on January 18, 1947 in Veedersburg, IN. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1990. Survivors include her two sons, Bill (Patty) Brewer of Covington and Scot (Lori) Brewer of Covington; her daughter, Sandra (Steve) Denhart of Pittsboro, IN; a son in law, Steve Dice of Covington, IN; a sister in law, Peggy Murray of Covington; after the death of her sister Doris, she raised her nephew, Greg (Sachere) Murray of Russellville, IN; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Vickey Dice, four brothers, Clifford, Gene, Walter, and George, and one sister Doris. Betty graduated from Covington High School in 1944. She worked in the court house in Covington as a secretary and in the Veterans Office and later was secretary at Maranatha Baptist and also First Baptist in Covington. She worked in the Covington school cafeteria for twenty years before retiring in 1994. Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Covington. She was very active in her church and volunteered at the Nursing Home. She was an avid fan of the Covington Trojans and enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren playing sports. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday January 24, 2012 at Sunset's Covington Chapel. She will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. Pastor Joe Humrichous will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. EST Monday January 23, 2012 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in her name to the charity of the donor's choice.
