Cayuga, Ind. -- Betty Jean Devins, 85, formerly of Cayuga and a resident of The Waters of Covington in Covington, Indiana for the past 4 years, passed away at 3:59 p.m. CDT Monday, August 3, 2009 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Illinois. She was born February 13, 1924 in Logansport, Indiana the daughter of the late Henry A. and Edith Zeider Sutton. She married Spencer Devins on July 2, 1949 at Twelve Mile, Indiana. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1982. Survivors include: one stepdaughter, Marjorie Richardson of Perrysville, Indiana; one step son, Kenneth Yockum of Perrysville, Indiana; several step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; special nephew, Chester(Nancy)Towner of Cayuga, Indiana; special niece, Patsy Deuel of Elkhart, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one step daughter, Evelyn Coon; one step son, David Devins; three sisters; three brothers. Betty formerly worked at Kickapoo Sports Wear for ten years and Young's Foods, Inc. in Danville, Illinois for five years retiring in 1977. Betty then worked at the North Vermillion Elementary School in Cayuga, Indiana as a office assistant. She was a member of the Cayuga Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Cayuga American Legion Auxiliary Post # 263. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. Funeral services: 2 p.m. EDT Thursday, August 6, 2009 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Officiating: Rev. Grover Williams; Burial: Miller Cemetery in Lodi, Indiana; Visitation: Noon EDT until time of services Thursday, August 6, 2009 at the funeral home. Family request contributions may be made to the Cayuga American Legion Auxiliary Post #263, P.O. Box 461, Cayuga, Indiana 47928 or to the Cayuga Presbyterian Church, C/O Sanctuary Fund, P.O. Box 386, Cayuga, Indiana 47928.
