Betty Jean (Elam) Boyd Betty Jean (Elam) Boyd, 83, of Tilton, passed away at 7:21 p.m. Thursday, December 5, 2013, at her home. Betty was born April 3, 1930 in Melrose Addition (now Tilton) to Dial William and Cursie( Rowena) Elam. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William Elam and sisters Mary Elam and Anna Marguerite Swank. Betty married Oscar “Okie” Boyd on June 8, 1947. He survives. They were married at the Tilton Congregational Church by the Reverend James Cornett. Surviving are sons Bruce (Patty) Boyd of Catlin, Rick (Chris) Boyd of Danville, and Barry Boyd of Danville and very special niece, Diana Konieczki. Also surviving are grandsons, Chad Boyd, Brock (Amy) Boyd, Cale (Jodie) Boyd, Wade (Crystal) Boyd, Neal (Bobbie) Boyd, and Michael Boyd, step grandchildren Shane and Mathew (Ashley) Burmeister and great grandchildren Cullen, Raimee, Jayleigh, Travor, Callynn, Sophia, Brenna, Cale B., Quentin and Liberty Boyd, step great grandchildren, Dalton, Dakota, and Braylen Burmeister, Zoey Edwards. Betty lived in Tilton all her life with the exception of nearly two years when she lived in Greenbelt, MD., while Okie was in the Navy. Betty was a former member of the Daniel School PTA, Buzzen Dozen Bunco Club, Cub Scout Den Mother and Life Member of the Tilton Historical Society. Having been a member of the United Church of Tilton, she enjoyed the fellowship of the congregation, as well as participating in many of the activities of the church. She helped with fundraisers, Vacation Bible School, organized many funeral dinners for members of the church and was involved in the prayer chain. Betty and Okie enjoyed many activities together throughout the years. They took part in ballroom dancing and had been members of the Promenaders Square Dance Club and the Bootkickers. Bowling was also another favorite activity. Family was very important to them. They attended many of their grandchildrens events and especially enjoyed all the family dinners. The family would like to thank caregiver Lois and the Alpha Care staff for their excellent care. A celebration of Bettys life will be held at 10:00 am. on Monday December 9, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home in Danville IL., with Pastor Anita Livengood officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday December 8, 2013 from 2:00 until 5:00pm. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers Bettys family would like memorials directed to United Church of Tilton or Tilton Historical Society.
