Betty Jane Ervin, 76, of Danville, passed away at 3:50p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville. Betty was born on May 22, 1933, in Blount Township, the daughter of Isaac and Millie Jane (Morrow) Powell. She married Bob Ervin on May 15, 1954 at his oldest brothers house in Danville by Reverend Beckemeyer. He survives. She is also survived by one son- Bill (Julie) Ervin of Catlin; one daughter- Lyndy (Ken) Blan of Springfield, IL; seven grandchildren-Stacy Conn of Carbondale, Leanne (Bill) Moore of Aurora, Holly Jane (Tom) Slaters of Arlington Heights, Noah (Stephanie) Blan of Geneva, Alexis, Erin and Amelia Ervin all of Catlin; one great-granddaughter- Olivia Moore of Aurora; two brothers- Delmar (Margaret) Powell of Danville and Eugene (Betty Mae) Powell of Covington; two sisters- her twin-Beveline Danner and Mary June (Wayne) Kochell both of Danville; sister-in-law- Margaret Powell of State Line, Indiana; and several niece and nephews and all of the close neighbors on Poland Road. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers- Albert Powell, Robert Powell and Palmer Powell, and two sisters- Louise Wallace and Naomi Wehmeyer. Betty graduated from Henning High School and later graduated from Danville Beauty School. She worked as a hair dresser owning her own shop and working for others. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Danville Garden Club, Four Seasons Garden Club, DAR Governor Bradford Chapter, Danville Art League, Danville Boat Club, Danville Symphony Auxiliary and Vermilion County Museum. At the church she was involved in the PTO Board, sang in the choir and past cheerleading coach. She enjoyed singing, playing the guitar, swimming, gardening, painting and sketching. Betty organized the reunion at Bunker Hil School for Dorothy Edgington. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. A Celebration of the Life of Betty Jane Ervin will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, with Rev. Dr. Jimmy and Katie Hopper officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
