Betty J. Nolen Rodriguez, of Danville and formerly of Cayuga, passed away on May 24, 2024 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. She was 89. Betty was born on September 27, 1934 in Hillsdale to the late Roy and Myrtle Southard.
Betty is survived by her grandsons Michael (Melissa) Murdock of Danville and Randall (Elizabeth) Murdock of Crawfordsville; daughter-in-law Cindy Nolen; 14 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands George Nolen II and Thomas Rodriguez; sons Michael Murdock and Greg Nolen; grandson Jason Murdock; great-grandson Randall Murdock II; and granddaughter-in-law Denise Murdock. She was also the last survivor of the 9 Southard family children.
Betty retired from GE/ Valmont after many years of service. She used her retirement as an opportunity to go back to school and attended DACC for floral arranging. She was a proud member of the Cayuga American Legion and Eastern Star. She loved to travel, looked forward to eating out, and took every opportunity that arose to go shopping. She enjoyed watching college basketball and NASCAR.
A funeral service in her honor will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2 pm EST at Sunset Funeral Homes DeVerter Chapel, located at 215 N. Division Street in Cayuga. A visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 1-2 pm at the funeral home. Pastor Ramona Trover will be officiating.
