Betty J. Lopinski, 83, of Danville, formerly of Georgetown, passed away at 9:09 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012. She was surrounded by her family at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Betty was born February 15, 1929, in Westville, the daughter of Hector Delanois and Agnes Krainock. She married John "Hank" Lopinski in Paris, IL in 1949, and they were married 56 years. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2005. Betty is survived by her five children, John Henry II (Jeanne) Lopinski of Cape Meares, OR; Debbie Potter of Georgetown; Tom (Lisa) Lopinski of Burbank, CA; Bob (Jennifer) Lopinski of Nashville, TN; Barbara (Larry) Carter of Westville; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Hector Delanois Jr. and sister Patty Roberts. Betty was a graduate of Westville High School and obtained her bachelor's degree in Education from Eastern Illinois University. She was the first deaf person to graduate from EIU. She taught at Illinois School for the Deaf, Indiana School for the Deaf, Chicago public schools and District 118 in Danville. Betty more than anything loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching her son's band play and attending her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events. Betty looked forward to playing cards and bingo with her deaf friends every week. She also liked to cook, sew and make quilts for her family. A service to celebrate the life of Betty Lopinski will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28th at Sunset's Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home in Georgetown, with Pastor James Blue officiating. She will be laid to rest at Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday July, 27th at the funeral home.
