Betty E. Black, 87, of Seymour, Illinois, passed away at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 12th, 2012 at Provena Covenant in Urbana. Betty was born on November, 19th, 1924, in Decatur, the daughter of Sidney and Ruth (Blakeman) High. She married Burl P. Black on November 4th, 1943 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on November 13th, 2003. She is survived by two sons- Johnny (Anne) Black of Tolono, Illinois and Dennis (Kelli) Black of Seymour, Illinois; two daughters- Sharon Armstrong of Seymour, Illinois and Linda (Carl) Johnson of Weldon, Illinois; six grandchildren- Marsha, Jessica, Luke, Mike, Joshua and Jeremiah; four great-grandchildren- Sabrina, Katie, Jake and Ryan; sister- Patricia Dobbs of Champaign; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Burl P. Black Jr., brother- Jack High and a sister- Rena Caron. Betty attended Decatur High School. Several years ago she worked at Staley's in Decatur during WWII, but she spent most of her life being a mom, grandma and great grandma. Betty enjoyed traveling, playing cards, Facebook and loved going to the riverboats gambling. She was also an avid Johnny Cash and St. Louis Cardinals fan. Her greatest love was spending time with her family and her pets. Graveside services for Betty E. Black will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19th, 2012 at Danville National Cemetery, with Pastor James Blue officiating. Per her wishes she will be cremated. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, a Life Celebration Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the VA Illiana Healthcare Systems.
