Elizabeth Betty Ann Burnett, 88, of Danville, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. Betty was born on December 24, 1918 in Litchfield, Illinois, the daughter of Bernard and Anna (Bartman) Kelly. She married Sylvestor Van Burnett on February 13, 1944 in Danville. He preceded her in death on November 23, 2005. She is survived by four sons- Michael Van (Maureen) Burnett of Danbury, Connecticut, George (Debbie) Burnett of Danville, Joseph Mark (Lori) Burnett of Danville, and Robert William (Amy) Burnett of Naperville, Illinois; two daughters- Mary Ann (Kenneth) Miller of Oakwood and Patricia June (Bill) Schultz of Minnesota; one sister- Mary Jane Figueras of Williamsport, Indiana; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers- William Kelly and Bernard E. Kelly. Betty graduated from Litchfield Community High School. She attended St. Johns School of Nursing in Springfield. Betty was a member of the United States Navy Reserve as a nurse from 1943-1944. She worked at St. Elizabeths Hospital for 22 years as a registered nurse. After retiring Betty enjoyed volunteering at St. Elizabeths. Betty was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she often helped out volunteering at the church and was involved in the social committee at the church. She was also a member of the NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees), AARP, St. Johns Nurses Alumnae, St. Elizabeths Alumnae Nurses Association and was involved in Meals on Wheels. Betty enjoyed traveling after she retired. She loved to go and see all of the fall foliage. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, flowers, and being outdoors. She loved being around her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A special thank you to all of our family for all of the love and care over the years. A Celebration of Life Mass for Elizabeth Betty Ann Burnett will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Father Ted Pracz officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Church or School. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at; www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
