Betty Brainerd

Betty Brainerd, a cherished member of her community, passed away on July 17, 2025, just days shy of her 89th birthday. Born on July 21, 1936, she dedicated her life to education, having taught at White Heath Elementary School for the majority of her teaching career. 

Beyond her career, Betty was involved in her community. She was a member of the Mahomet Legion Woman's Auxiliary and a member of the United Methodist Church of Mahomet. Her contributions to these organizations showcased her spirit of service and her dedication to helping others.

Those who knew Betty will remember her as a loving, caring, and thoughtful person—a bright light in the lives of many. She will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Betty is survived by her children, Tom Brainerd and Tina Frick (Steve), and her grandchildren, Amber, Nash, and bonus grandchildren Stephen and Erica. She also leaves behind seven bonus great-grandchildren who enriched her life immeasurably.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matilda and Walter Hoffman; her husband, Alpheus; and her brother, Larry. The loving memory of Betty Brainerd will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
